Defiance

Not all forms of defiance are bad. Some are actually good, such as defying the world and society's views.

In John 15:18-19, Jesus said "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you."

The world hates God because they choose sin over God.

In Galatians 5:19-21, the evil deeds of the world are shown very clearly "The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like."

In order to defy such views of the world, we have to show the fruit of the Spirit, as shown in Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."

Someone once said that "knowing that the world hates God, the great temptation for Christians is to compromise to try to appease the haters. But as Jesus taught, a man cannot serve two masters."

So you have to pick a side...
