Leadership
Hehe...just this afternoon i saw my PLTC evaluation form, the one i had done way back in november last year...Seems like only yesterday when i was at that torturous but enriching camp. Brings back really fond memories. Anyway i heard that im supposed to write on the back of the evaluation form on what kind of leader i want to be...Then after the PLTC this year, i would then see if i have accomplished my goal.
Somehow i feel like i have a lack of foresight. The PLTC evaluation form wasnt really much of an evaluation of the sec4's running the camp. It was in fact to benefit us in our camp this year. In what way, i shant mention it.
Well, this post was supposed to be about leadership and yes, what kind of a leader do i wanna be? First of all, a leader does not create followers, but creates more leaders. During the PLTC, if time permits (which i highly doubt so), i plan to impart leadership skills which i have learnt into the sec2s. Of course i would also love to teach sec2s about stuff lyk orienteering, but at this point of time, i think imparting life skills such as leadership and teamwork is more beneficial.
Anyway as a leader, i plan to serve, as i believe to command is also to serve. Command = Serve? First time i heard that i was lyk going NO WAY THATS BULL****, but its true. Leadership by example is the only true kind of leadership, everything else is in fact, dictatorship.
Leaders are also meant to bring their people to places where they do not want to be but where they ought to be, such as out of their comfort zone. I believe in 3 zones in total. The first is obviously the comfort zone, once you step out of your comfort zone, u go into a zone of fear, however as u learn how to deal with this fear u get into a 3rd zone called a zone of growth. It is in this way where people gain success after long periods time spend in the growth zone. It's quite amazing when you see how this works, that the first step towards success starts when u leave your comfort zone.
I shant talk any longer in this post however i am sad to say that where there are leadership committees, theres bound to be corruption, like what i see in the air rifle club. Not that im being a sore loser or anything but committee members there are appointed by favouritism rather than leadership. It's also quite disheartening to hear complaints about the ARC committee from the sec 1s and 2s, which proves my point that appointment by favouritism would never get full co-operation from everyone. There are many bad forms of leadership there, especially when one of them gets physical with a sec1 and tosses markers at him just for talking, i shall not state names as they should know who they are. I sure hope they change their way of leadership as it doesnt benefit anybody and loses respect from juniors.
Anyway i shall leave myself to ponder on this topic of leadership and what it is totally about...
