Eight Below
I just watched the movie Eight Below at SICC today. This is an amazing story about survival and friendship. Brutal cold forced 2 explorers to leave their team of sled dogs as they fend for their survival. I was rather teary eyed as it was with many other people in the theatre. The movie was able to give us what life was in the arctic and what an explorer really does there. The film splits into 2 directions, one where the dogs fend for themselves in Antarctica as they survive the bitter cold, and the other where the main character due to his tremendous love for his dogs tries to get back to them.

So then, the dogs must fend for themselves, and they do so, by staying together, working as a team, looking out for each other and caring for each other.
Together
Everyone
Achieves
More
They set an example for us humans to follow.

The main character has also proved that when theres a will, theres a way. Despite being turned down and rejected many times, he still searched for every possible means to be reunited with his beloved dogs. Hope and dedication to his cause in the face of insurmountable odds i should say. Truly an example for everyone of us to follow.

At first, I didn't expect it to be so touching. However, it's not just about sled dogs in Antartica. It's about survival and the bond a person has with his dogs.

Many themes were in the movie : loyalty and friendship; the importance humans have in taking care of animals; losing a loved one, whether a person or a pet; dedication to a cause in the face of insurmountable odds; hard work pays off; patience; relying on others to share your burdens; hope; and that relationships, both human and animal, can bring joy to life.
